Our Paint Job Services Can Repair Fading Paint Colors
The paint on your vehicle can fade over time with exposure to light or heat, this may cause a chalky white appearance and a lack of shine. No one wants their auto’s paint job to lose its luster and shine. Titus Will Collision can sometimes restore your car’s paint job’s shine by buffing a small layer of the paint with an abrasive compound and then polishing it. If the fading and lack of shine is too severe, we can sand down the surface and repaint your car.
Salt Damage on Your Vehicle’s Paint Job?
Road and sea salt can cause spotting and pitting in your car’s paint job. Salt damage can be a seasonal threat to your auto’s paint in many areas. Over time, salt can erode your car paint and other auto surfaces. The salt damage is typically more visible on darker colored vehicles. A car’s paint shine can sometimes be maintained with regular washing. In other cases, buffing and sometimes repainting it will be necessary to restore the beauty and shine to your auto body’s paint color. In all auto paint jobs, a single stage metallic finish would need to be sanded and then reapplied to the vehicle.
Small Rocks Can Cause Big Paint Job Chips
Fix those nicks and dings created by small rocks striking your car at a high rate of speed with Titus Will Collision Center’s auto body and painting services. An impact from small rocks or other hard objects at a high rate of speed can cause small areas of damage to your car paint film and leave a nick, notch or void in the paint finish. The damage from these small rocks can result in a loss of adhesion to the overall substrate of your vehicle’s paint job. Titus-Will Collision Center will sand, featheredge and refinish all rock paint chip areas, to make your car look like new again!
Auto Body Chemical Damage
Titus-Will Collision will fix damaged and discolored paint job’s by neutralizing the environmental contaminant, then sanding and buffing or repaint if necessary. A chemical change in your car paint occurs when harmful environmental contaminants such as acid rain, tree sap, bird droppings and road tar remain on the surface of your car for an extended period of time.
Titus-Will Collision Center will wash your vehicle with a baking soda solution to neutralize the contaminant. Followed by sanding and buffing the surface with the appropriate grit sandpaper. When refinishing your cars paint job, it is critical to bring your car’s appearance back to tip top shape, Titus-Will Collision will sand and repaint the affected areas for you.
Loss of Car Paint Gloss and Paint Refinishing
Hazing, dulling and weathering all lead to a reduction of your car’s outer most layer (paint) and make it look less stunning. A loss of gloss on your vehicle’s paint can come from a natural weathering of the finish or it can be caused by the use of strong detergents or cleaners on your car’s surfaces. If the paint is intact, the vehicle’s surface can be sanded and polished using special pads, compounds and polishes on a rotating buffer machine. If your car paint gloss is cracking, the paint will need to be removed and the surface refinished.
What is Cracking?
Prevent further auto body paint damage by maintaining your vehicle’s paint finish. Cracking usually occurs when a car is 3 to 6 years old. It is found most commonly on the upper panels, which are exposed to the sun most often. It is the sun’s UV rays that are primarily responsible for the breakdown of auto body paint. Cracking begins slowly, but once the process is set in motion, it moves quickly. That’s why getting your car’s paint job repaired today and get you back on the road — is always recommended! Cracking begins with microchecking – microscopic teeny tiny breaks in the paint. It’s easy to mistake microchecking for the less serious problem of paint fading so don’t hesitate to stop by and have one of our experts check out your paint job.
Cracks must be treated or they will spread. When they spread, you will lose more painted areas thus causing the metal below to be more exposed and rust or pit. To ensure the cracks don’t return, the affected area must be stripped down to bare metal before painting. This is similar to removing pesky weeds from your yard, if you don’t remove the roots, they will keep coming back.
The Problems With Painting Over Cracking
There are two basic reasons why we wont paint over cracks:Glossy auto paint will only magnify the problem, moreover the very act of painting causes solvents to seep into and open up the cracks, only magnifying the initial problem.
Clear Coat Delamination
Clear coat paints have their own timeline when it comes to delamination, which is a peeling away at the top surface or clear coat of your car’s paint job. Frequently, this timeline is based on the amount of exposure to the sun. Other times, this effect results from a manufacturer defect. When the delamination process begins you will see what appears to be like pockmarks on the paint surface. Then, with time the clear coat will begin to separate from the pigment. The last step, and likely the most damaging, the paint will peel in small or large sections. This process only accelerates as more metal is exposed to weathering from moisture and the sun. If left and not repaired the car’s paint job would become rust. The paint is protecting the metal frame of your automobile and yes it is beautiful, but the functionality is critical and deserves immediate attention before the damage spreads.
Maintaining Old & Porous Paint Jobs
Professional paint job maintenance using state-of-the-art technology. As auto paint jobs age, they become porous. When new paint is applied to the surface it has a tendency to soak into the old finish causing uneven color and gloss effects. Sealers provide a uniform base so the new paint sets up evenly with good “hold-out” from the old finish. This enables consistent color on every paint job and gloss throughout the entire painted surface. Primer sealer also provides an excellent material for the new paint to chemically bond to, thereby insuring good adhesion.
Surface Rust Auto Body Maintenance
Protect your vehicle from body surface rust. Surface rust occurs when the paint surface has been broken, in some cases the breaks are so tiny it is hard to see them with the naked eye. The next stage of damage will be more obvious to the naked eye, the bare metal oxidizes (rusts) and then “pits” the bare metal. All the rust must be repaired or it will get worse and ruin the new paint surface of your car’s paint job.
Repairing Auto Body Surface Rust
Due to the bare metal being pitted, surface rust cannot simply be sanded away. The Titus-Will Collision Center system insures a seamless, cost-effective repair using the following steps:We grind the surrounding paint to bare metal. We then grind or sandblast the pitted metal to remove the rust. Then we acid-etch the bare metal to remove any microscopic traces of rust, thus inhibiting its return. We then sand and level the bare metal, apply a polyester filler if the pitting is severe, and prepare the car for painting.
Rust Through Auto Body Maintenance
Prolong the life of your car paint job by preventing the rust to go through. The rust that has broken through came from inside the panel. The problem is worse than it appears on the outside, because the accumulation of trapped dirt and moisture speeds up the oxidation (rusting) process. Rust-through is an automotive design problem seen more commonly with older cars. Today, manufacturers design panels are more intelligently designed to minimize dirt and moisture entrapment. Although nobody can guarantee the problem won’t return, Titus-Will Collision assures a seamless auto body repair that will prolong the life of your car – for a great value!
Repairing Rust Through
To ensure a seamless repair of rust through, Titus-Will Collision will:Cut away the metal beyond the rusted area to make sure all rust is eliminated. Grind away paint in the surrounding area, clean out the dirt, and apply a rust inhibitor to the interior panel. Titus-Will Collision will then fashion and weld a new piece of metal, or apply chemically bonded polyester filler to the vehicle. The final step is to acid-etch the new metal to remove any microscopic traces of rust; fill, level and prime for a seamless repair and gorgeous paint job.
What is Auto Paint?
The most complex and hard working of all paint available is none other than–auto paint! It has a dual acting purpose of not only making the auto body design of the vehicle pop, but also works very hard by protecting the exterior of the vehicle from all conditions. Auto paint job’s also come in 10,000 colors and effects, and also have greater luster, shine, depth, and weather resistance than any other type of paint job. The layer of paint itself is only .003” thick. Our staff is highly skilled and trained to navigate this little yet large task of auto paint jobs and repair.
Light Metallic Paints
Light metallic paints (silver, for example) have a much lower percentage of pigment generally, which means that they are much more likely to fade with exposure to the sun’s UV rays. That’s why Titus-Will Collision Center recommends its more durable paint systems especially for cars with light metallic paints.
Whole Car Painting
Why do people paint their whole car? Sometimes, it’s because the weather and elements have aged the vehicle. More commonly though paint jobs are sought out when the owner realized their auto’s paint appears dull and faded, shows signs of cracking or peeling, or doesn’t shine or wax up anymore when washed. Many times the appearance of the vehicle (the paint primarily) is the only visible aging part on the whole car. The vehicle runs really well and is in good shape, so the owner decides to refresh the older model by refinishing and painting it. With professional and quality tools Titus-Will Collision will keep your vehicle looking phenomenal, whatever your reason, no job is too big or too small.
Besides painting, Titus-Will Collision Center has always done expert auto body repair work. No matter what your need is, straightened or replaced metal, fixed dents, repaired dings, replaced parts and/or eliminated rust, if your in the Tacoma area come by the Titus-Will Collision Center.
Why Spot Paint?
People generally get their cars painted for one of two reasons: An old auto paint finish that’s tired, dull, cracked or chipped, typically requires painting the entire car. If the auto paint finish is fine, we can help maintain resale value by repairing only the damaged areas and then matching them to the existing surface. In spot painting, a multiple masking process ensures an accurate blending of the new and old auto paint, and protects the undamaged areas of your car’s finish and paint job. The age and condition of your car’s auto paint finish can greatly affect the formulation for color match. To color correct accurately, the professional spray painter must measure the formula within one-tenth of a gram tolerance, spray test panels, and if necessary color correct by eye to achieve the best possible auto paint color match.
Spot painting requires a special multi-step application process to ensure a quality blending of the new and old auto paint finishes. This blending process requires that we sequentially blend up to three separate applications beyond the original area. A clear coat is applied to ensure an accurate gloss match and a seamless, durable auto paint job and repair.
The Science of Spot Painting
Save money by spot painting existing paint jobs. Spot painting is appropriate when your car needs only one or two panels painted. Check for a quote first though, because sometimes the panels repainted alone, may cost more than painting the vehicle in its entirety. We will offer the best recommendations for your specific needs.
Preparation: The repaired area and adjacent panels are chemically cleaned and block sanded to give a precise and flawless surface for painting.
Masking: In spot painting, there is a multiple masking process to ensure on accurate “blending” of the new and old paint as well as to protect the undamaged areas of your car’s finish.

What is Paint Clear Coat?
The most appropriate time for a clear coat is when you need to add protection to your auto body paint job. Have you ever seen your mom, sister, wife or daughter apply a clear coat to their nails after painting them? The paint manufacturers use a clear coat for similar reasons as the women in your life use a clear coat on their nails; the top clear layer adds a gloss to your paint jobs finish. Even your clear coat is susceptible to cracking, peeling and delamination, so be careful taking good care of your car’s paint job.

Car Paint Stripping and Paint Removal
To ensure a smooth and glossy car paint job, your vehicle may need to have its paint stripped down to the bare metal before painting. Car paint stripping is necessary when your vehicle’s finish is past the point of repair. Broken down finish is typical in an older vehicle which will show signs of cracked car paint and delamination. The affected area must go through the process of paint removal down to a stable substrate before the new car paint can be applied. Titus-Will Collision Center will then correctly prepare the underlying vehicle surface and repaint your car, leaving you with a stunning, glossy and warranted new paint job on your vehicle.
